Strongsville GOP Announces Its 2026 Candidate and Issue Endorsements

State Issue 3 — Constitutional Photo-ID Requirement

Strongsville GOP supports placing voter-identification requirements in the Ohio Constitution. Ohio already requires photo identification for in-person voting; Issue 3 would give those requirements constitutional protection and establish standards for identification when voting other than in person.

We believe clear, durable safeguards strengthen confidence in our elections.

Issue 9 — Strongsville Schools Levy

A Victory for Taxpayers and Students

Strongsville GOP stands for excellent schools, responsible government and accountability to voters. For three years, we have stood with voters pressing our school district leaders for a funding plan that serves our children and respects taxpayers. That effort has produced real progress. Issue 9 deserves our support.

Taxpayers Stood Firm—and the District Changed Direction

In 2023, the district was running a nearly $10 million annual surplus. By June 2024, cash reserves had reached $75 million—89% of annual spending. Voters repeatedly sent a clear message: support our schools, but stop collecting more than they need.

The district has heard that message and changed course. Reserves fell to $58 million by June 2026 and, with Issue 9, are projected to reach $47.2 million by June 2027—less than half of projected annual spending. The district has also begun modest spending reductions.

Issue 9 Delivers What Taxpayers Asked For

In July 2024, we proposed a $7 million renewable levy with voter review after five years. Combined with the existing $8.41 million levy, our proposed funding plan totaled $15.41 million annually. Issue 9 would raise $15.43 million annually for five years—essentially the same funding level and $2.84 million less than the $18.26 million annual package in the original 2023 plan.

The outcome goes further. When the earlier levy stopped collecting at the end of 2024, the district lost roughly $9.8 million in annual revenue and had to use reserves taxpayers had already provided. That money is now supporting our schools. Issue 9 does not recover those missed collections.

After reviewing the finances and the progress made, Strongsville GOP endorses a YES vote on Issue 9 on November 3.

Taxpayers stood firm, and it worked. Issue 9 delivers a smaller annual funding package and a five-year limit while restoring dependable support for our schools. Reserves were used to pay for the education our children needed. This is the responsible direction voters demanded.

Our goal has always been excellent schools supported by responsible finances. Supporting Issue 9 advances that goal and keeps accountability where it belongs—with the voters.

Issue 103 — Strongsville Fire and EMS Levy

When Emergencies Overlap, Our Response Must Be Ready

When a loved one needs an ambulance or a fire threatens a home, our community needs trained responders ready to act. Strongsville GOP endorses YES on Issue 103 to strengthen that readiness.

According to the Issue 103 campaign, roughly 70% of calls for service overlap with another call. Its plan is to hire 12 additional firefighter-paramedics to strengthen staffing across the city and at the new fifth station near Royalton and Pearl Roads. The goal is more emergency vehicles in service, better coverage and faster response.

A new station needs people to make it effective. The campaign states that Issue 103 would support operations and staffing; construction of Station 5 is being financed separately.

The additional 1-mill levy would cost $35 annually per $100,000 of market value—or $122.50 a year for a $350,000 home. It is a continuing levy with no scheduled expiration.

Protecting lives is a core responsibility of local government. Providing the personnel to answer simultaneous emergencies is a practical investment in that responsibility. Vote YES on Issue 103.
