Personal Message from Shannon Burns, President Strongsville GOP: With a heavy heart, I present to you today's statement from The Executive Board of The Strongsville GOP. Never before did I believe that we would be betrayed by one of our own this close to home. When considering our response I reflected on this powerful quote from our GREAT President, Donald. J. Trump: "Following your convictions means you must be willing to face criticism from those who lack the same courage to do what is right. And they know what is right, but they don’t have the courage or the guts or the stamina to take it and to do it. It’s called the road less traveled." -- Donald J. Trump May 13, 2017 Strongsville GOP Statement On Congressman Anthony Gonzalez's Vote to Impeach Donald J. TrumpJanuary 14, 2021 Members and Supporters of The Strongsville GOP, The United States House of Representatives voted on January 13, 2021 to impeach President Trump under the vague allegation that he incited the riot which occurred on January 6th. Ten Republicans of the House of Representatives voted with the Democrats to approve the Impeachment Article. One of the Congressmen who joined the Democrats is our own Congressman, Anthony Gonzalez. Upon learning late yesterday of Congressman Gonzalez's intentions to vote to impeach The President of The United States, just prior to the actual vote, the Officers and Board Members of the Strongsville GOP submitted the enclosed letter to Congressman Gonzalez imploring him to reconsider and expressed our extreme displeasure with such an act. The Executive Board strongly believes that his inexcusable act of betrayal in endorsing the impeachment of President Trump has, essentially, breached the trust between our Club and Congressman Gonzalez and which, in our opinion, his words and actions are inconsistent with Conservative ideals and the desires of his constituency within his District. We call on the members of The Strongsville GOP to come together at our Annual Membership Meeting on February 8th at 7pm and take appropriate political steps to hold Congressman Gonzalez accountable. We invite you to share your comments on (1) his actions yesterday (2) the action which the Strongsville GOP Club took yesterday and (3) what action you believe (if any) the organization as a whole should take. Please reply to this email with your comments and they will be compiled without attribution and shared at a later date. Our Letter to Congressman Anthony Gonzalez January 13, 2021 Congressman Anthony Gonzalez, The Strongsville GOP has been pleased to have supported you, observed you, and been the beneficiaries of your actions on our behalf. We have agreed with much of what you have done in your tenure in Congress. Until today, we have greatly appreciated your service to the 16th District. It shocked me when just now I received a call from your Chief of Staff informing me that you plan to vote to impeach The President of The United States. I can't begin to tell you how appalled we are. This action is obviously a political stunt based on no evidence geared towards removing the will of the voters in the 2024 election. If you vote to impeach President Trump, you will be caving in to the radical pressure of the elite society that has been committed to destroying this great man. Such an action would be a breach of the trust that you have previously created with your constituency and the members and supporters of our organization. Furthermore, this would be a complete betrayal to the citizens of the State of Ohio and an affront to the Republican Party. We implore you to please reconsider and allow for a more thoughtful, fact based and non-political response to the events of January 6th. You must know that if you decide to betray the citizens of the 16th district, Strongsville GOP will be forced to perform all acts necessary to oppose you and remove you from future office. We once again implore you to change your mind on this vote and do the right thing for our Nation. Sincerely, Shannon Burns, President On behalf of the Officers & Board of The Strongsville GOP Notice of Annual Membership Meeting |
