Election Reform is Top Priority
After the election in 2020, election integrity became a point of serious concern for voters. While we watch multiple states review the results of the 2020 election and look to make necessary improvements to their election process, we set out to do the same here in Strongsville. We reviewed the process by which we elect and replace members of city council and determined two areas that we feel do not represent the interests of the voter and instead transfer power to elected officials and bureaucrats. We are currently gathering signatures to get these proposed changes on the ballot:
Strongsville GOP Proposes Two Charter Amendments
Amendment #1:
Allow Voters The Ability To Hold Individual At-Large Council Members Accountable -- Change to Three Independently Elected Council At Large Positions
The three Council At Large positions are currently voted on using a "Pick Not More Than Three" method that results in no one council member being held accountable for their actions (or inaction). This resulted in 2 of the 3 winning candidates not even getting close to 50% of the vote in a recent election!
We are asking the voters to put a charter amendment on the November ballot that would require each candidate run for a specific seat allowing voters to hold candidates accountable. This language is nearly identical to the language put forward in 2005 by the Charter Review Commission.

Amendment #2:
Eliminate Appointments and Return The Power Back To The Voters
Recently, three of the seven members of our City Council were appointed by the members of Council and not elected by the people. This put the City in a position where significant decisions could be made with almost no input by elected officials.
We are asking the voters to put a charter amendment on the November ballot that would require vacancies on Council to be filled by a vote of the people and not by politicians picking their favorites. This language is nearly identical to the process by which the Ohio Governor must follow when there is a vacancy in Congress.
